Restaurant Experience Team Overview

The Global Restaurant Experience Team is responsible for elevating CX & EX through transforming a restaurant's physical space into a functional, visually appealing, and immersive environment that enhances the overall restaurant experience, making the McDonald's experience distinctively golden.

Collaborates with development leads for US, International Operated Markets (IOM), and International Developmental Licensee) (IDL) Segments & the Global Development team to identify and address opportunities to elevate the customer & employee experience, fuelling the ability to accelerate new store development & grow restaurant sales.

Design Integration Overview

Design Integration owns the global restaurant design standards and their effective deployment to the Segments (US, IOM, IDL), supporting the acceleration of our new store growth ambitions and enhancing the performance of our existing portfolio.

Working in partnership with the Architecture & Design Innovation and Restaurant Experience Teams, the team ensures the delivery of the highest quality holistic restaurant designs across the System, creating supporting tools, training & guidelines and catalogues.

The teams’ scope includes but is not limited to setting expectations relative to cost (initial and operational), quality, availability, and sustainability credentials for restaurant designs, and coordinate procurement strategy and tactics with GSSS (Global Strategic Sourcing Services).

An ongoing collaboration with Design Integration leads for the US, IOM, IDL Segments facilitates their ability to achieve excellence in deployment.

Job Description

The position reports to the Global Restaurant Design Director, Design Integration and will work with other team members to lead and support projects and initiatives that will serve our global markets. 

This technical role supports the improvement and value engineering of the McDonald’s global restaurant design standards, including interior decors, crew facilities, family & play, back of house and exterior designs, i.e. facades, terrace decors and signage.

The job includes analysing, evaluating, and proposing ways to optimize the cost and performance of design solutions, while ensuring that design intent is maintained. The supervisor will support the Senior Team, working with internal and external partners, i.e. Global Strategic Sourcing Services (GSSS) suppliers, consultants and contractors to enhance value without compromising safety, aesthetics, functionality, or quality / durability, sustainability, identifying cost-effective solutions for materials, finishes, fixtures, and furnishings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review design intent drawings of existing decors and specifications to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure value engineering recommendations meet key KPIs and business needs.
  • Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to identify new solutions and materials that are cost-efficient without compromising design integrity.
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses of proposed design and / or material changes or substitutions.
  • Assist with lifecycle cost analysis for materials and systems.
  • Document and present value engineering proposals to Senior Team and cross functional partners i.e. GSSS.
  • Support Senior Team and GSSS with procurement / sourcing strategies and cost benchmarking.
  • If required, support Segments with localization efforts, to optimize effective scalability.   
  • Participate in design review meetings and support the facilitation of Benchmark Workshops.
  • Collaborate with Restaurant Experience and Restaurant Models teams to propose alternative materials or construction methods that align with project goals.
  • Provide input during design development to align with project budget and value targets.
  • Influence without the direct exercise of command; persuasion is required to effect change.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, allowing one to engage with individuals who may hold different perspectives but share a common interest, primarily motivated by a shared goal of finding a resolution.
  • Play an active role in contributing to the performance & success of the Team.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in related field required in Interior Design, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Previous track record required in interior design, construction, or value engineering roles.
  • Strong understanding of materials, finishes, FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment), and construction methods.
  • Proven ability to assess costs, schedules, and design implications of alternative solutions.
  • Familiarity with interior / exterior design standards, codes, and sustainability frameworks (e.g., LEED).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Hands on experience of Adobe Suite required.
