Job Description:

In this role, you will help create and manage the perceptions of one of the most recognized brands.

Reporting to the Manager, Cultural & Community Communications, you will be responsible for developing and leading communications strategies to support McDonald's  U.S. business and brand across the Asian consumer segment for food and menu news, brand activations and campaigns, critical business drivers and other customer engagement programs.

As a member of the Cultural & Community Communications team, you will proactively communicate with cross functional business partners and assist in providing counsel and develop communications programs that effectively reach and engage defined audiences (e.g., media, consumers, influencers, third party organizations, etc.) with McDonald's brand engagement efforts, drive awareness & sales, and enhance & improve overall brand image and advocacy.

Responsibilities

In addition to following McDonald’s policies and procedures, your principal accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:

Communications Strategy & Counsel

  • Aligns communications and PR strategy with (1) supported U.S. Business departments such as Marketing, Digital/Social, Menu Innovation and within McDonald's Corporate Reputation Team, and (2) other Communication departmental areas (e.g., media relations, internal/system, field communications, public affairs, and government relations) as well as key franchisee partners.
  • Assist with execution of public relations campaigns for defined focus areas including consumer engagements and promotions, food & menu categories, digital accelerators, and reputation initiatives with the Asian consumer.
  • Work closely with field partners and owner/operators to ensure campaigns are reflective of their teams’ needs for a robust communications plan that fires on all cylinders and authentically connects with the Asian consumer market.
  • Align strategy and develop partnerships with Marketing, Social Media, Digital, Menu Innovation, Operations, Legal and McDonald's Corporate Communications Team.
  • Become an expert on effective ways to reach and engage key external audiences.
  • Gather, analyze, and incorporates appropriate brand and industry standard methodologies to ensure that strategy and programs resonate with and motivate the Asian consumer.
  • Measure and report on success of communications and PR strategy for ownership programs.
  • Write and edit press releases, media statements and other relevant communications materials.
  • Use data and customer insights to back up thinking and decisions.

Relationship Building

  • Develops and maintains relationships with key partners across the U.S. Business, especially with those departments and individuals that the Communications team partners with including franchisees, field & national marketing and communications and national and local PR agencies.
  • Strives to demonstrate teamwork within the Communications/Corporate Relations team as a whole, i.e. supporting team members, providing coaching/mentoring, identifying ongoing opportunities to contribute to cross-functional initiatives.
  • Brings back knowledge and new information to the team and department to further collective skills development, leadership.

Resource Management/Administration

  • Complete all routine administrative functions (e.g., expense reports, budgets, etc.) in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Assist in managing all resources related to ownership of communications and PR programs (e.g., budget, agency support, team support, etc.)

Agency & Vendor Management

  • Learn the intricacies related to national/regional PR agencies and assist in the development of communications strategy and PR programs to support ownership areas with agencies
  • Manages relationship with multicultural PR agency as part of an integrated agency team process in the development of leadership communications strategy & PR programs to support ownership areas.
  • Monitors quality of work and provides ongoing feedback and counsel in ownership areas to agency partners to help them meet objectives, deliver the best work.
  • Monitors and guides agency spend against established budgets to ensure effective resource management.
Qualifications:

 

 

  • Must be fully vaccinated (i.e., at least 2 weeks after last dose) for COVID-19 and, if hired, present proof of vaccination by start date.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in Public Relations, Integrated Marketing or Digital/Social, including multicultural communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Communications, Public Relations, Digital/Social, Marketing or other related field
  • Deep knowledge of and experience with the Asian consumer market
  • Results-oriented with proven experience in leading teams
  • Strong networking, relationship-building and interpersonal skills are imperative
  • Experience partnering with and influencing others outside direct line of control, management
  • Excellent writing, design, and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail, self-starter, and great teammate
  • Creative thinker with strong strategic mindset; solid experience in concept to execution of new ideas
  • Solutions-oriented problem solver
  • You should enjoy working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-focused, ambiguous yet dynamic environment with constant change
  • Demonstrated knowledge and success with traditional print and broadcast media, as well as online media, good relationships with media
  • Experience utilizing social media, digital channels to engage audiences with brand, organization content
  • Experience and expertise in multicultural public relations, media relations and engagement
  • Familiarity with traditional and social media monitoring tools and related metrics reporting
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
