Department Overview
This opportunity is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO), where our mission is to deliver modern and relevant technology that supports the way McDonald’s works. In this role, you will define and drive enterprise architecture for the Microsoft 365 platform—ensuring services such as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned to business outcomes.
Reporting to the GTIO Director and working closely with Global Technology leadership, product teams, cyber/security, data/analytics, and workplace technology partners, the Microsoft 365 Lead Architect will anticipate and lead strategic and tactical needs for the modern workplace—translating business needs into reference architectures, implementation patterns, guardrails, and operating models across Microsoft 365 services (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange) and related capabilities (e.g., Entra ID, Intune, and Purview).
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technology leader to shape the modern workplace experience across the enterprise—enabling secure collaboration, improved employee productivity, and robust information governance at global scale.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
- Own the enterprise reference architecture for Microsoft 365 services, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange, aligned to business priorities and global operating requirements.
- Define a multi-year Microsoft 365 platform roadmap covering service adoption, standard configurations, lifecycle management, and deprecation strategies to reduce fragmentation and risk.
- Establish architectural standards and governance for Microsoft 365 tenant design, information architecture, and collaboration patterns (e.g., Teams & SharePoint site provisioning, naming/metadata, guest access, and external collaboration).
- Partner with Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Legal to define and operationalize security and compliance guardrails across Microsoft 365, including identity/access, data loss prevention, retention, eDiscovery, auditing, and encryption.
- Architect modern endpoint and identity dependencies that enable Microsoft 365 capabilities (e.g., Entra ID and Intune device posture concepts) and ensure consistent experiences across geographies and user segments.
- Lead solution designs for migrations, consolidations, and platform modernization efforts (e.g., SharePoint/OneDrive content migration, Exchange lifecycle, Teams voice/video readiness) with clear cutover and risk management plans.
- Define reliability, performance, and service management expectations for Microsoft 365 (monitoring/telemetry, incident/problem management patterns, change/release impact assessment) in partnership with IT Service Management.
- Provide executive-ready architecture narratives and decision materials; facilitate technical design reviews and drive alignment across multiple stakeholders, including vendors and system integrators.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise architecture for Microsoft 365 and modern workplace platforms, including establishing standards, reference architectures, and governance.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of core Microsoft 365 services and patterns, such as Teams (collaboration and meetings), SharePoint (intranet/content management), OneDrive (personal storage and sharing), and Exchange (messaging).
- Deep understanding of identity, access, and endpoint foundations that influence Microsoft 365 architecture (e.g., Entra ID and Intune concepts), including least privilege and secure external collaboration.
- Experience designing information protection and compliance controls within Microsoft 365 (e.g., data classification, DLP, retention, eDiscovery, auditing/logging) and translating requirements into actionable guardrails.
- Experience leading migrations and modernization initiatives across Microsoft 365 workloads (e.g., content migrations, tenant configuration standardization, collaboration model transformations) with a strong focus on change management and user experience.
- Ability to evaluate Microsoft roadmap changes, assess impact to the enterprise, and translate findings into actionable architecture guidance and leadership-ready materials.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, skilled at translating complex ideas into clear business language and influencing decisions across diverse stakeholders.
- Highly collaborative along with independent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills; comfortable with ambiguity and operating at global scale.

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this role is $141,955.00 - $177,444.00 per year
