Department Overview

McDonald's Global Supply Chain Sustainable Food Sourcing (SFS) team develops and implements strategies for a sustainable and resilient food supply chain. As part of the Global Strategic Sourcing Food (GSSF) team within the Company’s Global Supply Chain (GSC), we collaborate with our Suppliers, McDonald’s Markets and Corporate teams including commercial, quality, digital and strategy teams in GSC, and key partners in Global Impact, Finance, Legal, Menu and more. The SFS team is accountable for workstreams that support our public sustainability commitments and deliver transformational change for a resilient supply chain. We do this by leading on food sustainability strategies, policies, specifications, supplier engagement and measurement that drives action across our System, the industry and with global stakeholders. Responsibilities

Employment: This currently is a temporary assignment until the end of December 2026 based in Chicago IL.

High-Level Job Summary

This position will lead and manage execution of food supply chain sourcing transformation initiatives to help achieve McDonald’s Climate Target and enable food suppliers to deliver on expected emissions reductions in the most efficient and strategic way for an integrated sustainable sourcing outcome. With the Director, Climate & Nature Sourcing Transformation, this team member will help progress to critical milestones and ensure alignment across sustainability strategies to meet 2030 public commitments and value for our business and customers. 

Working with the Climate & Nature Sourcing Transformation Director, this postion will also:

  • Lead in development and execution of climate mitigation efforts related to McDonald’s food supply chain Scope 3 Forest, Land & Agriculture (FLAG) and industrial (Non-FLAG) Climate Target. This includes leading the accelerated planning for McDonald’s 2030 Climate Target with suppliers and across functions, markets, categories, and McDonald’s System partners.
  • Align across workstreams and business priorities including assured supply, farm-level resiliency, forests and nature, human rights and more to support integrated sustainable sourcing, optimized supplier outcomes and System value.
  • Collaborate closely with Supply Chain teams, Global Impact, Markets and Suppliers to drive these action and demonstrate the business case.

 

Key responsibilities include:

Strategy and Execution:

  • Manage and enhance the food supply chain climate strategy and strategize accelerated planning for McDonald’s Climate Target.
  • Develop food supplier expectations, guidance, communications and engagement approach for Climate Target as part of a clear and synchronized voice to suppliers on sustainability.
  • Identify and analyze the commercial and impact implications and data to inform the business rationale, insights and decisions for supply chain Climate and Nature initiatives as part of strategic sourcing strategy, supply chain resilience and in support of McDonald’s business strategy.
  • Manage the execution and performance of the climate strategy and accelerated planning with highly cross-functional McDonald’s project teams and other key partners (third parties, consultancies, etc.)
  • Engage suppliers in alignment with SFS Supplier Engagement Platform, GSSF and Global Impact teams.
  • Analyze suppliers’ progress, anticipate and adjust for potential risks and issues and opportunities to enhance mitigation plans.
  • Identify resources, tools, technologies and best practices to drive supplier action, support business objectives and public commitments related to climate, and help to embed a culture of sustainability.

Collaboration & Communications:

  • Partner with Global Impact to align to climate accounting, external frameworks and other strategic guidance.
  • Support Global Finance, Category Sourcing teams and suppliers to manage investment and commercial impact for market strategy to execute.
  • Generate executive and decision-useful communications for timely leadership updates and strategic position papers on key business questions.
  • Build strong relationships across suppliers, functions, markets, categories to support transformation and understanding of McDonald’s Climate Target.

Qualifications

Experience and Knowledge

  • 8+ years of post-college experience working in matrixed and decentralized organizations, leading sustainability and/or change management initiatives.
  • Very strong understanding of climate change mitigation in food production (FLAG, Non-FLAG); plus climate adaptation, deforestation, land conversion and natural resources.
  • Good understanding of McDonald’s System and business functions, market/segment structures, priorities and efforts, category-specific value chain.
  • Good understanding of commercial sourcing, financial models for franchised enterprise, global supply chains and suppliers.
  • Degree in sustainability, environmental management, ecology, agriculture, or a related discipline preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills, writing capabilities, oral communication and presentation skills, and ability to succinctly update leadership.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is $129,800 - $165,490 per year
