The Commercial Products & Platforms team develops digital experiences and global technology platforms that delight our customers and enable them to order on their terms, across channels and touch points, reliably and conveniently.
Responsibilities
As an Engineering Tech Lead, Mobile Payments, you’ll oversee implementation of new payment experiences such as adding digital gift card capabilities, customer experience enhancements and further adoption of our mobile order and pay capability into new global markets. This includes defining technical strategies and architectural solutions and leading the development and deployment of payment features and enhancements across McDonald's customer-facing channels.
McDonald’s global mobile app is the cornerstone of our digital ambitions for the next decade, and this role will play a central role in bringing mobile ordering and seamless payments to millions of customers around the world.
The Engineering Tech Lead, Mobile Payments will work as part of the Payments team within Customer Technology reporting to Senior Manager, Engineering Tech Lead and act as a steward for these new products and platforms alongside key partners in product management and design. This role unlocks key new experiences for McDonald’s customers as we advance our standardization and globalization journey. Responsibilities include:
- Architectural Direction and Guidance: Establish a technical vision and strategy for our products, with a primary focus on McDonald's Payment capabilities across customer-facing channels. Create solutions that align with business goals for the payment experiences. Evaluate, design solutions and lead the development of software capabilities.
- Technical strategy and leadership: Drive the technical direction for payment capabilities and lead development teams for Software Development Engineers (SDEs) within your squads, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to best practices. Provide leadership to team members and peers, collaborate with others, and hold yourself and the team accountable for results.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with stakeholders and peers in design, product, architecture, operations, and other teams to aid in the solution, development, and deployment processes
- Product Lifecycle Management: Partner with Product Managers and Designers to lead the lifecycle of the ideation, backlog refinement and development processes. Break down large, complex solutions into smaller deliverables that provide functionality to users. Work with product managers to sequence product and sprint backlog.
- Technical Excellence: Ensure that code development aligns with architectural, quality, and security standards, while maintaining documentation standards for all software shipped.
- Testing and Deployment: Ensure test coverage across all payment features and services. Partner with DevOps and engineering teams to increase automation of test coverage and emphasize test-driven development practices. Be accountable for the deployment of new features, including quality assurance, production deployment, and defect remediation.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Assist and be the subject matter expert on features and capabilities to development partners and other product teams to ensure alignment.
Basic Qualifications

- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in mobile technology, with advanced knowledge of application instrumentation and component-level testing for mobile applications.
- Good experience in system design for mobile applications and understanding the Human Interface Guidelines for Apple and Google.
- Experience working on mobile storage and caching strategies.
- 3+ years of Agile Product Management experience, preferably leading agile development teams.
- Expertise in software development, Agile methodologies, and architectural design.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Broad understanding of programming languages
- Experience in retail, restaurant and/or digital technology, especially mobile and web applications.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing direct and indirect reports.
- Expertise in project and product planning, including prioritization and roadmap creation.
- Passion for improving customer experience and operational efficiency through innovative technology solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering.
- Software development and/or solution architecture experience.
- Familiarity Swift and/or Kotlin.
- AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud experience and certification.
- Experience with software deployment, scaling, and management.

The expected salary range for this role is $129,800 - $165,490.00 per year
