Department Overview

We are seeking a Director of Edge Platform Engineering to lead the design and development, design, development, and evolution of McDonald’s Edge computing platform. Develop platform engineering strategy, ensure robust edge platform, and coordinate engineering teams.

As part of our modernization efforts, we are implementing Edge servers managed by Google Cloud for quicker, low latency analytics and improvements to our customer facing platforms. This critical program requires strong leadership to support the technological aspects and impacts of the Edge rollout.

The Director of Edge Platforms Engineering is responsible for leading the technology reviews across the ongoing Edge programs/projects and evaluation of new Edge-enabled solutions to ensure alignment with McDonald’s Enterprise Architecture (EA) standards. This role requires an understanding of EA principles, ability to align transformation efforts with the overall business strategy and ability to foster collaborative relations with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Duties

  • Develop and implement the Edge Platform Strategy, in support of the overall Edge Solution Delivery technical vision and strategy within the Edge program ensuring alignment with other peripheral engineering initiatives with business objectives.
  • Management and Support of the Edge platform through overseeing engineering, tools, and processes.
  • Lead the engineering of scalable Edge platform solutions, ensuring modularity, observability, and maintainability.
  • Lead and direct the technical platform implementation and pilot deployment activities and deliverables, ensuring conformity to project requirements. Lead the platform workstream from inception to delivery and oversee project planning, execution, and delivery within scope, budget, and timeline constraints.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards for platform resilience, scalability, and performance.
  • Ensure platform reliability, up-to-date technology, and adherence to IT service management best practices and implement policies for the Edge platform governance and compliance.
  • Effectively manage operational relationships with key vendors and service providers by establishing robust service level agreements and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Mentor technical specialists, encouraging diversity, inclusion, excellence, innovation, and growth within the team.
  • Ensure the team remains inspired and motivated and aligned with organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in technology, with a focus on engineering, data, cloud and digital solutions in a large multinational organization.
  • Experience influencing, inspiring, and leading high-performing, diverse teams (>20) of employee and external supplier teams across multiple geographies.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful engineering platform strategies including migration/transition.
  • Strong technical background in engineering platforms and an understanding of Enterprise Architecture principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in technology transformation, systems administration, digital technology, engineering, computer science, or other related fields.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., PMP, Agile, Scrum) would be a plus.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with the McDonald’s business model, including intimate knowledge of our markets, market priorities, and key leaders.
  • Capability to identify gaps in technological capabilities and submit requirements to meet identified gaps.
  • Able to prepare and present accurate and timely information to senior technology leadership regarding program progress and maturity, up to and including the McDonald’s Senior Leadership Team.
  • Proficient in technical writing and demonstrating various creative mechanisms to communicate technical subjects to diverse audiences
  • Ability to manage and mitigate risks, with a focus on security and compliance.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is $168,350.00 - $218,860.00 per year
