Department Overview

This position provides strategic and tactical leadership in the development, implementation and management of McDonald's Corporation’s worldwide insurance programs, and serves as a key advisor to the McDonald’s System. This role has ownership of insurance program renewals, leads negotiations with brokers and insurers, oversees captive operations, and drives innovation, cost optimization, and resilience across a complex global organization.

The Director reports into the Senior Director, Corporate Insurance.  The Director independently represents the function where appropriate, while partnering closely with the Senior Director and the Treasurer on high‑profile renewals and enterprise initiatives. This is a high-profile position that closely partners with senior executives at McDonald’s and with the franchisees/licensees as well as the external insurance broker and carrier community.

Duties

Global Insurance Program Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and innovate all McDonald's Corporation worldwide insurance programs including property and casualty, directors and officers, crime, fiduciary, cyber, auto, advertising, and worker’s compensation.
  • Negotiate all details of McDonald's Corporation worldwide insurance programs including terms and conditions, coverage, and premiums.
  • Advanced use of data analytics to inform insurance strategy and cost optimization.
  • Assure all insurance programs are managed in accordance with applicable governmental regulations, regulatory guidelines, business ethics and McDonald’s Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Monitor compliance with McDonald's Corporation minimum insurance standards worldwide.
  • Lead insurance negotiations for RMHC, P2W, OPNAD and other McDonald’s supporting entities as well as providing advice and council on their risk and insurance needs.

Captive Insurance Operations & Risk Financing

  • Responsible for overseeing 3 insurance captives with activities worldwide.
  • Operational responsibility of underwriting and administrative activities of McDonald's Corporation's international and domestic captive insurance companies.
  • Partner with captive managers, actuaries, underwriters, and finance teams to oversee underwriting results, reserves, capital adequacy, and governance.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize captive utilization and balance risk retention and risk transfer in alignment with enterprise risk appetite.

Enterprise Risk, Crisis Readiness & Resilience

  • Serve as primary corporate insurance consultant for McDonald’s U.S. and International markets, including DLs and franchisees. 
  • Provide insurance advice to McDonald's Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, and other senior management teams on all insurance related matters from complex insurance claims, coverage issues, and contract reviews.
  • Serve as an active contributor to enterprise crisis‑management and resilience initiatives, supporting scenario planning and response protocols.
  • Anticipate and identify new or emerging exposures, insurance issues, and regulatory changes that may impact the business and develop long range plans and strategic direction for appropriate resolution.
  • Maintain relationships with third party service providers, including brokers and insurers, to ensure that the interests of the Company and its clients are properly addressed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive global corporate insurance, underwriting, or brokerage experience.
  • Proven ability to take ownership and negotiate complex contracts.
  • Experience with captive insurance operations and risk‑financing structures.
  • Strong executive communication, influencing and stakeholder‑management skills
  • Experience leading and developing high‑performing teams, 5 years preferred.
  • Must exercise sound judgment; be able to work independently and effectively under tight pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
  • Travel required, international and domestic.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this role is $168,212.00 - $210,265.00 per year
