Job Description:

This opportunity is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO), where our mission is to deliver modern and relevant technology that supports the way McDonald’s works. We provide best-in-class foundational technology products and services including Global Networking, Cloud, End User Computing, and IT Service Management! It’s our goal to always provide an engaging, relevant, and simple experience for our customers.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Cloud Infrastructure & Operations, and working closely with the entire technology leadership team, the GTIO Director, Global Cloud Operations & SRE, will anticipate and lead the strategic and tactical needs for McDonald’s Cloud Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering teams. You will work closely with various partners and stakeholders across the globe.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technology leader to help shape and champion the transformation of infrastructure practices and standards for the entire McDonald’s environment!

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Cloud Enterprise Operations and SRE teams, provide strategic vision while balancing near-term deliverables.
  • Mentor, lead, and hire a high-performing team of managers and engineering professionals. Set clear priorities to achieve enterprise goals and critical metrics.
  • Develop and deliver a cohesive vision, strategy, and roadmaps for SRE and Operations in partnership with cross-functional teams, including Cloud Security, Global Technology Risk Management, Consumer Products and Platforms, Restaurant Technology, Markets, and other external collaborators.
  • Effectively handle vendor selection, SLAs, and relationship with Managed Service Providers for Azure, AWS and GCP.
  • Understand McDonald's current landscape of tools, processes, standards, automation, monitoring, etc. as input to the vision for evolution of the platform.
  • Lead assessments and vendor selections to develop and deploy pioneering platform tools and services, spanning beyond traditional technology to deliver value.
  • Partner with technical product managers, architects, and engineers to employ Site Reliability Engineering principles improve reliability, reduce incident response times, and support increases workloads while maintaining support costs.
  • Supervise and ensure the accuracy, quality, security, and usability of all infrastructure platforms.
  • Partner with business leaders, technical product managers, and architects to resolve long-term viability of systems/products, from business and technology standpoints.
  • Communicate ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences, including Directors, Senior Directors, and VPs. Fosters a constructive dialogue, harmonizes discordant views, and leads the resolution of issues.
  • Decompose significantly sophisticated problems into straightforward solutions. Consistently bring strong, data-driven business and technical judgment to decisions.
  • Identify core problems or opportunities within business processes. Understand the root cause and impacts for the project and other teams.
  • Remove bottlenecks to enable teams to work independently. Drive team members to proactively identify gaps and opportunities (e.g., services, workflows, tooling) within or between markets and other parts of the organization.
Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to run technical products from an unclear problem statement, driving clarity, understanding, and opportunity assessment, handling tradeoffs and evaluating potential concepts with internal and external partners using design thinking and agile principles.
  • Experience leading technical priorities relevant to Operations practices and driving strategic architectural initiatives.
  • Consistent track record of delivering successful SRE technology and infrastructure projects to decrease cost, improve reliability, and reduce incident response time.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and grow high performing technical teams, including technical product managers, architects, and engineers.
  • Ability to proactively identify and solve sophisticated problems potentially impacting the function.
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions, develop product strategy, cases, and measure success / value realization.
  • Superb written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey sophisticated ideas in easy-to-understand business friendly language.
  • Experience negotiating contracts and managing suppliers to deliver high quality products or services, on time and on budget.
  • Ability to manage partner expectations and resolve conflict.
  • Excellent relationship leadership skills and the ability to build and grow connections with vendors and people of all types and backgrounds from all over the world.
  • Experience with infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) offerings

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience with Cloud platform design patterns and vendor platform capabilities; experience deploying Cloud tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence and partner across product and platform teams within a global engineering organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and navigate to get results within a globally distributed organization.
  • Strong experience owning and delivering high load digital platforms / infrastructure with measurable results.
  • Deep understanding of global complexities and differences between markets / regions
  • Experience managing chargebacks, P&L of a program and developing/managing financial forecasts to communicate return on investment and spend rate.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience and a bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering/technology, or 3+ years of relevant work experience and a master’s degree.
  • 8+ years of technology capability implementation and deployment experience across multiple IT practices that may include infrastructure leadership, service management leadership, technology operations, engineering, security, and business relationship management.
  • 5+ years of experience in leadership roles, including leading teams of employees.
  • Experience leading technical teams that manage a strategically important product and/or a suite of products.
  • Experience influencing senior executives (VPs, SVP), and setting expectations for major cross-functional initiatives.
