Job Description:

The McDonald’s Legal Department has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated lawyer with at least 3 years of legal experience. The Employment Litigation Practice Group leads all aspects of labor and employment litigation. The team also provides legal support and advice to McDonald’s to assist the business in preventing and reducing litigation costs, while maintaining a consistent approach to litigation across the country.

In this role, the lawyer’s responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating and leading charges of discrimination and other complaints filed against the Company with regulatory agencies
  • Preparing position statements and other responses to be filed with agencies, preparing witnesses, and participating in on-site investigations
  • Under the supervision of senior counsel, resolving pre-suit demands
  • Participating in and influencing decision-making process with appropriate clients and collaborators
  • Coordinating aspect of litigation and related matters where McDonald’s is a party or has an interest, including supervising outside counsel in corresponding with opposing counsel, responding to subpoenas, drafting pleadings, preparing and responding to discovery, preparing witnesses for deposition and trial testimony, representing witnesses in depositions, and preparing for oral argument
  • Optimally engaging in every aspect of the litigation process, including assessing risk, developing strategy, partnering with outside counsel, handling budgets, ensuring compliance with e-discovery requirements, preparing for trial, and devising strategy
  • Coordinating with Human Resources to recommend, implement, and continuously improve employment-related policies and procedures
  • Drafting and negotiating settlements, terminations, and other employment-related agreements
  • Support the continuous improvement of process and standard form agreements/contract templates, to increase efficiencies, while providing adequate safeguards
  • Supervise and work closely with outside counsel to identify and minimize business risks and to achieve strategic objectives that are timely and efficient
  • Ensuring compliance, applicable laws, regulations, and policies
  • Identifying and assessing legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment and litigation areas and advising accordingly
  • Ensuring that all partners are involved in the decision-making process
  • Educating clients and partners on legal matters
  • Supervising, managing, and evaluating outside counsel as appropriate
  • Supervising and/or providing direction to administrative, paralegal, and other support staff
  • Establishing and managing relationships, credibility, and trust with clients, partners, legal team members and other colleagues
  • Operating with outstanding standards of integrity required
  • This role requires some domestic travel (10-20%)

 

    Qualifications:
    • Proven experience of 3 years required in the labor and litigation area
    • Licensed to practice law and in good standing with a state bar association
    • Experience handling federal and state courts and administrative agencies
    • Experience counseling clients on labor and employment and/or litigation matters
    • Stellar written and communication
